JEA Celebrates National Energy Awareness Month
Jacksonville, FL (October 2, 2009) – October is National Energy Awareness Month, and JEA is celebrating by sponsoring in-store events to remind customers JEA offers special discount coupons and mark-down prices for CFLs in more than 200 stores in the JEA service territory.
JEA customers have purchased more than 600,000 energy-saving light bulbs for their homes since October 2007. This equals just over one bulb per home. Every home should have at least five bulbs to provide real savings, according to the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency.
In response to concern regarding used CFLs, JEA (and the City of Jacksonville) created the Green Partners disposal program. More than 40 local retailers are collecting used CFLs in special disposal boxes. The bulbs are then taken for appropriate disposal and recycling. More than 500 bulbs were collected this year alone.
Customers can visit a store (see below) where JEA representatives will be demonstrating the different types of CFLs and the various applications of these energy-saving bulbs.
