The JEA Net Metering Program is for customers who choose to add renewable generation to their homes or businesses. Customers with their own renewable generation offset the electricity they would have purchased from JEA. Customer-owned renewable generation up to 100 kW is allowed under JEA’s Net Metering Policy. Renewable generation exceeding that amount would not be eligible as it requires a specific purchase power agreement with JEA.
How does the Net Metering Program work?
- Customers are charged for the metered kWh received from JEA during each month.
- Customers are credited for the metered kWh sent to JEA each month.
- Customers accrue any credit balance month to month through the end of the calendar year.
- At the end of the calendar year, JEA will pay out any credit balance due to the customer.
- Customers can track credit balances on their monthly billing statement.
- The credit dollar amount will be calculated using the customer’s retail energy rate, demand, fuel, environmental and conservation charges (“Retail Rate”) per kWh.
How to Apply for the Net Metering Program
JEA does require that the customer renewable generation systems for solar photovoltaic systems be installed within the guidelines of its engineering standard ECS 20202 902, Parallel Operations & Interconnection of Photovoltaic (PV) Facilities . Other renewable generation systems shall be reviewed by the applicable engineering group within JEA for approval. Compliance with the standard and the review are required to ensure that the proper equipment is installed to protect JEA personnel working on circuits where customer renewable systems may be grid-tied.
Please read, complete and sign, as indicated, the required JEA documentation to ensure proper understanding, installation and interconnection for your customer owned renewable generation system. Please refer to the following required JEA documentation.
